On March 13, 1997, the First District Court of Appeal in San Francisco struck down the California State Bar's Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) program on equal protection grounds. The California Supreme Court granted review on June 5, 1997. That action depublished the First District's decision, but left the status of MCLE in California up in the air. The Supreme Court will hear oral argument at 9:00 a.m. on June 2, 1999 in its San Francisco Courthouse. This page will keep you apprised of the current status of the case.
