Stylish federal rules are on the way: The federal rules advisory
committee has a major rewrite of all the federal rules under way. The
substance will remain the same, but the rules will become clearer and
simpler. The Rules of Appellate Procedure and the Rules of Criminal
Procedure have already taken effect.
The advisory committee published the new Rules of Civil Procedure for
comment on February 25, 2005. Comments are due by December 15, 2005. Justice Brown departs for DC: Janice Rogers Brown, an associate justice of the California Supreme Court since May 1996, has become a judge on the influential D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. The Senate confirmed her nomination on June 8. Until a new justice is appointed and confirmed, the Supreme Court will continue to perform its work with the remaining six members.
