Additional Information: Recognized as Appellate Justice of the Year by the California Trial Lawyers Association in 1984 and 1983. On the occasion of his appointment as Division Six's Presiding Justice, the Los Angeles Times quoted Justice Gilbert as saying: "A judge shouldn't go into any case with a preconceived notion about what a case is about. There are plenty of laws I enforce vigorously that in my opinion are not very good laws."
